BDI - BioEnergy International AG: Spent-grain-fermentation plant in Göss produces first green electricity

05.02.2016

(Grambach, February 5, 2016): During the completion of the spent-grain-fermentation plant in Göss the first green electricity was fed into the power grid only two months after the official opening.

At the end of January 2016 an important milestone en route to fully automated gas production of the brewery in Göss was reached. Following intensive preparatory work, the combined heat and power plant (CHP) was successfully started up and the first quantity of green electricity was fed into the gas grid.

'With this event the fulfillment of the goal of Heineken's sustainability initiative - 'Brewing a Better Future' - moves an important step closer towards carbon neutrality of the commercial brewery Göss. The successful first input of electricity furthermore represents an important step towards achieving the full utilization of the production capacities of the plant', says Dr Edgar Ahn, Member of the Board at BDI - BioEnergy International AG.

'The gradual commissioning of the spent-grain fermentation plant is being followed with great interest and not only in the brewery Göss itself. We are constantly impressed here by how smoothly and professionally the milestones are reached. A further important step in a project that has been very successful so far,' says brewmaster Andreas Werner.
