Kortrijk, Belgium, February 2017 - Healthcare imaging specialist Barco introduces a line of displays for every area in the dental office, from the reception desk to the treatment and reading rooms. The new line originated in response to the latest German image quality guidelines (DIN 6868-157) for medical displays, defining strict requirements based on how and where displays are used in dental offices.

  • Monitors for review (Eonis) and diagnosis (Nio) of dental images
  • Automated compliance with latest German imaging standard (DIN 6868-157)
  • Displays for every use case and room

About the new guidelines
The new standard (DIN 6868-157) took effect in Germany on 1 May 2015 and defines room categories for monitors on the basis of their intended use. These room categories (ranging from 1 to 6) set the maximum ambient light levels and minimum light output of medical displays, in relation to the work done in the room. As a result, the new guidelines make a clear distinction between diagnostic and reviewing quality.

A display for every area in the dental practice
In response to these guidelines, Barco developed an entire range of medical displays for every need in the dental office. The new line contains monitors for review (Eonis) as well as diagnosis (Nio) for the most demanding room classes, i.e. the diagnostic and treatment rooms. Barco's clinical review displays are typically used at the reception desk or for patient entertainment.

Quality assured, automatically
Barco displays for the dental practice come with MediCal QAWeb for automated calibration and Quality Assurance. This unique online service has proven its benefits over the years in the fields of radiology and mammography. By making this service available to dentists, there is no need for manual interventions to keep monitors up to standard. All Barco displays used in the dental office can be automatically calibrated to comply with the regulations as defined by DIN 6868-157.

Radiant images
Barco's renowned sensor technologies stabilize the brightness level of the monitor so images always look sharp, even in brightly-lit treatment rooms. Because stable, quality-controlled images ensure no loss of detail, it's also easier to share dental images between the referring dentist and specialist, or between peers.

Dental look and feel
The new line has an esthetic look (cables are invisible, white housing, modern design) to match the dental practice. Barco's review displays can be disinfected with alcohol-based dental cleaning products. Their diagnostic counterpart is available with a protective front cover for easy cleaning. The display is rated IP21. The front side complies with IP65.

More than just a monitor
Besides these outstanding tech specs and novel technologies, Barco's new display line offers dentists the confidence needed to plan effective treatment. By providing patients with a better, visual understanding of their dental condition and treatment plan, and enabling more efficient collaboration between the treating team, Barco aims to contribute to a better health outcome for patients.

Barco's new range of displays for the dental practice is commercially available in the DACH region (Austria, Germany, Switzerland) only.
