Iron-Chef® style team building event rewards commitment to youth programs in East Palo Alto
SUNNYVALE, Calif. - Dec. 9, 2011- Applied Micro Circuits
Corporation (NASDAQ:AMCC), or AppliedMicro, hosted a holiday
dinner and toy drive Thursday for more than 100 members of
the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Peninsula. More than 200
company employees donated their time and effort to prepare
the meals in the company's cafeteria and served them to club
members and their families as a gesture of community giving
and seasonal spirit. Each child also visited with Santa Claus
and came away with a present.
"AppliedMicro extended its relationship with the Boys and
Girls Clubs of the Peninsula by hosting this festive holiday
dinner and gift gala as a way of heralding the spirit of the
season," said Paramesh Gopi, President and CEO of
AppliedMicro. "The Boys and Girls Clubs provide important
services and activities for underserved children to help them
reach their full potential. By hosting this holiday meal, our
company hopes to support the organization's efforts by
rewarding those children who have committed themselves to the
clubs' programs. Our company has partnered with Boys and
Girls Clubs in the past and this event shows our continued
commitment to this very fine organization."
Company employees formed teams that prepared healthy vegan
meals at its Sunnyvale offices and invited members of the
Boys and Girls Clubs to be their guests for dinner, a holiday
toy donation drive and arts and crafts activities. The Club's
members served as judges of the food and voted on their
favorite dishes, earning one lucky team the company's
"Iron-Chef" title.
The holiday dinner was held instead of the company's annual
holiday party. Two years ago teams of employees at the
company built and donated bicycles to the children of the
Club. AppliedMicro donated all of the food, supplies,
professional help and manpower needed to host this year's
event.
"The hospitality that AppliedMicro offered us for this
festive holiday dinner was truly heartwarming," said Zareen
Kasad, Director of Strategic Partnerships for Boys and Girls
Clubs of the Peninsula. "We've worked with the company in the
past and the children have responded positively to the
support they have received. Our goal is to inspire youth to
attain the life skills and attitude they need to thrive. Part
of that comes through having good role models and
AppliedMicro demonstrated this by opening its doors to our
members and donating the time and energy to put on this very
this special feast."
AppliedMicro enlisted the services of Parties That Cook to
lead the team building, meal planning and cooking activities
for the holiday feast. The organization stages cooking
parties and corporate team building events throughout the Bay
Area and enlists highly trained culinary professionals to
direct the Iron-Chef style event where colleagues are divided
into teams and compete in a timed competition. With a basic
reference book to guide them, groups have one hour to develop
and prepare an entrée to present to a panel of judges.
"We were delighted to be a part of the holiday meal
festivities of AppliedMicro and the Boys and Girls Clubs,"
said Rosie Monson, Director of Event and Office Operations
for Parties That Cook. "This was a great way to combine
holiday cheer with an exercise that brings people together to
benefit youth programs."
