Houthis, who control much of Yemen including the capital, have attacked commercial vessels in the Red Sea since the October 7 attacks which lead to Israel's military offensive in Gaza. They say the vessels have Israeli links or are sailing to Israel and they are acting in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.

When asked, Cameron declined to specify what action Britain would take, or whether it would send more ships to the region, but said it was important for the global economy that the attacks stop.

Cameron also said he wanted to see more aid reach people in Gaza to prevent deaths from starvation and disease, while saying Britain supported Israel in combating Hamas following the Oct. 7 attacks in which Israel says 1,200 people were killed and some 240 abducted.

Cameron made the comments while visiting British troops serving with a deployment of NATO peacekeepers in Kosovo, and said supporting the country in ensuring security and stability was in Britain's national interest.
