Enjoying a meal at the dinner table is a timeless tradition that has brought family and friends together for hundreds of years. However, in today’s world, many individuals struggle to find the time to purchase meal ingredients, cook at home and eat together. toGather, a sustainable meal kit cooking experience launched by Bay Area Chef Jan Birnbaum, is changing this by empowering home chefs to cook conveniently and confidently. With a focus on gathering loved ones at home to share delicious meals, toGather elevates the home cooking experience, providing creative recipes and local ingredients along with valuable professional cooking and plating tips that consumers can add to their culinary repertoires.

“As a chef, I’ve been developing relationships with local farmers and purveyors for 35 years and believe in sourcing the freshest and finest ingredients to create vibrant meals for our passionate home cooks,” said Jan Birnbaum, founder and president of toGather. “toGather’s commitment to sustainability goes beyond using local, organic ingredients. We also utilize eco-packaging and provide convenient hubs for customers to pick up their meals, eliminating excess carbon emissions.”

How it works: toGather offers a rotating, seasonal menu of appetizers, entrees and desserts that can be created at home for two, four, or six people. À la carte and subscription options are available and customers can select their purchases from one week to two days in advance online at www.togather.us. Once the order is placed, customers simply pick up their meal kits at one of toGather’s convenient hub locations in the San Francisco Bay Area. Currently, public pickup hubs are located at 3440 California Street, 400 Howard Street, 500 Howard Street and 300 Battery Street in San Francisco and at 724 S. Amphlett Boulevard in San Mateo. toGather has future plans to expand with additional hubs in Hayes Valley and Mill Valley.

toGather provides everything needed to create a restaurant-quality dinner at home. The reusable, insulated carrier includes all ingredients, correctly portioned, and the step-by-step laminated recipe cards are designed for the customer to keep. toGather offers the highest level of sustainability to the home meal kit market. The company uses reusable cooler bags, reducing packaging waste by nearly half. Diners return the insulated carrying bag, cold gel packs and hard plastic containers to the original hub location, eliminating the unwelcome accumulation of packaging waste.

toGather is designed for consumers who are interested in learning how to cook and care about where their food is coming from. Because the service is of particular benefit to busy professionals, toGather has partnered with prominent San Francisco and Silicon Valley companies to provide the home meal kit service to its partners, associates and employees. Current participating companies include Facebook, LinkedIn, Farella Braun + Martel LLP and Charles Schwab.

toGather was founded by renowned Bay Area Chef Jan Birnbaum and co-founder Richard Ault.
