According to Xuzhou Municipal Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, 243,700 tons of fresh garlic from Xuzhou was exported in 2016, worth USD 433 million in value, increasing by 35.7% year-on-year and setting a new record for garlic export. The county-level Pizhou City under the jurisdiction of Xuzhou City is the main production area of garlic. The area of recorded export garlic plantation now reaches over 20,000 hectares. The garlic are mainly exported to destinations including Southeast Asia, Middle East, and South America, among which 80% have been sold to Indonesia. The garlic from Pizhou City is known for its crunchiness, fewer cloves, durability during storage and transportation. The Pizhou White Garlic has been approved by the State General Administration of Quality Supervision as a Product of Geographical Indication. In October 2016, the Pizhou White Garlic brand was submitted for the application of Ecological Primary Product.
