DEPARTMENT RELATED PARLIAMENTARY STANDING COMMITTEE ON COMMERCE

The Department Related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Commerce, headed by Shri Bhupender Yadav, M.P., Rajya Sabha has taken up the subject "Trade with Association of South-East Asia n Nations (ASEAN)" for detailed examination and has, accordingly, decided to invite views/ suggestions/ comments from individuals/ experts/ institutions/ organizations/ stake-holders interested in the subject matter. The views/ suggestions/ comments may, inter alia, focus on issues like existing framework of trade and commerce between India and ASEAN and its working; steps/ measures needed to augment trade in goods and services as well as promote investments; obstacles/ hindrances affecting optimal utilisation of the Trade Agreements; concerns related to widening of trade deficit and issues of trade balance in favour of ASEAN member states; effect of Mega Regional Trade Agreements like the proposed Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement on trade between India and ASEAN; impact of duty structure under the Trade Agreements with ASEAN and certain ASEAN member states on India's agriculture, industrial and services sector; engagement of private sector from India and ASEAN member states to enhance business networking and professionals movement; role of Ministry of External Affairs and Indian Embassies in ASEAN member states to promote trade and commerce; effectiveness of programmes/ schemes of Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry in optimal promotion of indo-ASEAN trade; etc.

  1.   2. The memoranda submitted to the Committee would form part of the records of the Committee and will be treated as confidential. These are not to be disclosed to anyone, till the report of the Committee is presented to Parliament. Any violation of this norm would constitute a breach of privilege of the Committee.

  3. Those willing to give oral evidence before the Committee, besides sending Memoranda may so indicate. However, the decision of the Committee, in this regard, shall be final.
