Greenwood Avenue & Church Road Left-Turn Arrow

The Township installed a left-turn arrow for westbound Church Road drivers turning towards Route 309 on September 28, 2016. Although unlikely to completely eliminate traffic backups in the area, the left-turn arrow should provide some relief to traffic flow until PennDOT completes a more extensive signal and intersection upgrade that includes creating a dedicated left-turn lane. PennDOT's project is scheduled to go out for bid in 2018.

EASTON ROAD AND ASHMEADE ROAD BRIDGE CHANGES
Jan 14, 2016

As a result of PennDOT inspections, Cheltenham Township officials announce changes that will impact traffic on two local bridges, one on Easton Road and the other on Ashmeade Road.

First, the weight limit of the Montgomery County-owned Easton Road bridge located near the Toxany Avenue intersection has been lowered to 13 tons because the bridge is considered 'structurally deficient and functionally obsolete.' Trucks over 13 tons should follow posted detours using West Glenside Avenue and Limekiln Pike. Later this month the Montgomery County Commissioners are expected to authorize the first steps in the bridge rehabilitation process, which could take approximately three years to complete.

Second, Cheltenham Township has eliminated one of two west-bound lanes on Ashmeade Road between the Philadelphia border and Tookany Creek Parkway. To help compensate for the lane loss, the left-turn arrow at the parkway intersection has been extended. In addition, the double yellow line has been shifted to the center of Ashmeade Road, and reflective delineator posts have been installed along the shoulders of the bridge. The bridge weight limit of 5 tons has not changed. The new traffic pattern will remain in effect until the township replaces the bridge, expected to begin later this year.
