Consumer price index (CPI) increased by 1.64% in December 2016

A rise in general index was realized in CPI (2003=100) on the previous month by 1.64%, on December of the previous year by 8.53%, on same month of the previous year by 8.53% and on the twelve months moving averages basis by 7.78% in December 2016.

The highest monthly increase was 7.33% in alcoholic beverages and tobacco

In December 2016, the indices rose for food and non-alcoholic beverages 3.29%, for transportation 1.97%, for recreation and culture 1.42%, for furnishing and household equipment 1.28%.

The highest monthly decrease was observed by 2.55% in clothing and footwear

In December 2016, the other group that indicated a decrease was communication by 0.14% amongst the main groups.

The highest annual increase was 31.59% in alcoholic beverages and tobacco

Transportation 12.36%, miscellaneous goods and services 11.08%, health 9.73%, education 9.47% were the other main groups where high annual increases were realized.

The highest monthly increase was 2.38% in TRC2 (Şanlıurfa, Diyarbakır)

The highest increases in CPI were recorded in TR82 (Kastamonu, Çankırı, Sinop) region with 10.09% compared with the same month of the previous year and in TR62 (Adana, Mersin) region with 9.31% on the twelve months moving averages basis.

In December 2016 within average prices of 417 items in the index, average prices of 48 items remained unchanged while average prices of 272 items increased and average prices of 97 items decreased.
