MC2STEM was founded in 2008 with seed funding from OH HB 119 that explicitly worked to catalyze regional hubs of engagement among school districts, business and industry and the philanthropic community to create dynamic schools delivering robust STEM education for all students. The revolutionary MC2STEM School working with TIES as their STEM consultant has been an incubator for best practices in STEM education and acts as a model platform STEM school for districts throughout the US and around the world.

TIES, The Teaching Institute for Excellence in STEM, is proud to have been involved with the design of MC2STEM from the beginning providing support to the Cleveland Metropolitan School District in drafting their application to the state for funding. TIES has continued to work closely with CMSD and head of school Jeff McClellan on facilitating the collaborative network of partnerships, designing the school from the ground up including STEM curriculum and creating the first in-school MIT-designed Fab Lab delivering STEM teaching and learning translated into state curricular standards.
