Statistics Canada : Computer and peripherals price indexes, December 2016

The price of desktop and similar computers, laptop and tablet computers, and servers decreased 0.9% in December.

The decline was attributable to lower prices for laptop computers (-1.0%) and tablet computers (-2.8%). Higher prices for desktop and similar computers (+0.3%) moderated the decline in the index, while prices for servers were unchanged.

Prices for smartphones fell 3.6% in December.

The price for computer monitors and computer printers declined 0.5%, mainly as a result of lower prices for computer printers (-0.5%), more specifically inkjet printers (-4.1%).

Year over year, prices for desktop and similar computers, laptop and tablet computers, and servers declined 2.2%. Prices for computer monitors and computer printers rose 0.5%.

The computer and peripherals price indexes are monthly series that measure the changes over time in the price of computers, computer peripherals and smartphones sold to governments, businesses and households. With each release, data for the previous six months may have been revised. The indexes are not seasonally adjusted.
