Import prices 0.5% lower than in the previous monthIn December 2012 the prices of products supplied from the non-euro area were 1.0% lower and the prices of products imported from the euro area were 0.2% lower than a month before. As regards groups of activities showing the dynamics of prices by end-use, intermediate goods prices decreased by 0.8%, energy prices by 0.7%, consumer goods prices by 0.4% and capital goods prices by 0.1%. In December 2012 import prices decreased the most in these groups: electrical equipment (by 2.0%), computer, electronic and optical products (by 1.7%), chemicals and chemical products (by 1.2%), paper and paper products (by 1.1%), leather and related products (by 1.0%) and coke and refined petroleum products (by 0.7%). The prices of beverages, food products, other mining and quarrying products, wood and products of wood and cork, except furniture; articles of straw and plaiting materials, fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment and furniture remained the same as in November 2012. In December 2012 import prices increased in these groups: other manufactured goods (by 1.0%), machinery and equipment n.e.c. (by 0.2%) and basic metals (by 0.1%).
Import prices 3.0% higher than a year ago
From December 2011 to December 2012 import prices grew by 3.0%. In one year the prices of products imported from the non-euro area increased by 3.9% and the prices of products supplied from the euro area by 2.3%. In one year the prices of imports increased the most in these groups: coke and refined petroleum products (by 20.2%), beverages (by 7.4%), food products (by 4.7%), leather and related products (by 2.9%), chemicals and chemical products (by 1.5%) and electrical equipment (by 1.4%). In one year the prices of imports decreased the most in these groups: basic metals (by 3.4%), basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (by 3.1%), paper and paper products (by 2.6%), computer, electronic and optical products (by 2.2%) and machinery and equipment n.e.c (by 1.2%).
