Sinn Féin : Kearney and O'Neill hold leadership delegations

Sinn Féin's leader in the north Michelle O'Neill and the National Party Chairperson Declan Kearney met with separate leadership delegations from NIC-ICTU and the CBI.

Speaking after these engagements, Declan Kearney said:

'Sinn Féin outlined our analysis of the current political crisis for NIC-ICTU and CBI delegations, led respectively by Owen Reidy and David Gavaghan.

'We reiterated our view that there can be no return to a political status quo based upon arrogance, contempt for equality and a refusal to adhere to the Good Friday Agreement principles and process.

'The political institutions cease to have any value unless they are based upon equality, respect, and integrity and deliver for all.

'Sinn Féín also expressed our concerns about the British government's increasingly belligerent attitude on the Brexit issue.

'We presented the case for the north to be designated special status in the EU as northern society and the regional economy will be negatively impacted by a removal of the north from the EU.

'There was agreement in the meetings that public confidence must be urgently restored in the political process and institutions for political and economic progress to be made.'
