Shanghai will focus on attracting companies specialized in robotics, integrated circuit, 3D printing, intelligent machinery, and digital health products, officials said yesterday.

The city's Jinshan, Songjiang, Qingpu, Fengxian, Putuo and Jiading districts as well as Lingang, Zhangjiang, Jinqiao and Minhang development zones recently signed cooperation agreements with the Shanghai Foreign Investment Development Board to attract smart manufacturers.

The board, better known as Invest Shanghai, is a government agency that provides a whole range of investment services for both Chinese and foreign companies.

Shanghai now has about 9,100 foreign-funded manufacturing companies, representing a quarter of all foreign enterprises in the city and one third of the city's total foreign direct investment.
