With the state still gripped by serious drought, Save Our Water has launched an all-new website at www.SaveOurWater.com to help Californians make lasting and permanent reductions in the amount of water they use every day. Save Our Water is California’s statewide conservation program and is a partnership between the Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA) and the California Department of Water Resources (DWR).
Californians made strides in 2014 to save water in the face of one of the worst droughts in generations. From the thousands of individuals who shared their conservation tips and ideas to celebrities including Lady Gaga and Conan O’Brien, Californians of all stripes joined the effort to save water last year. This week, the California State Water Resources Control Board reported that statewide residential water conservation in November climbed to a 9.8 percent reduction in year-over-year water use. Since reporting began in July, more than 105 billion gallons of water have been saved compared to last year – enough to supply 1.37 million California residents for a year.
“We’re grateful so many Californians have heeded the call to reduce their water consumption,” said Mark Cowin, Director of California Department of Water Resources. “The new Save Our Water website will help more Californians make water conservation a daily habit, not just an extraordinary measure we take in drought. Wise use of water helps the whole state, rain or shine.”
Throughout the drought, Save Our Water has aimed to give Californians tools and tips to help everyone easily conserve at home and at work, every day. In addition to the new website launched this week, Save Our Water connects with Californians on its Facebook page, Twitter and Instagram accounts.
“Even with the recent rain it is clear that it is going to take a lot more conservation to deal with this drought,” said Tim Quinn, Executive Director of ACWA. “California needs to make the resolution that 2015 be the year that we start new habits to save water everyday.”
Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. has called on all Californians to reduce their water use by 20 percent and prevent water waste. Save Our Water is a partnership between the Association of California Water Agencies and the California Department of Water Resources.
