Satellite Healthcare, a leading national not-for-profit and the 6th largest provider of patient-centered dialysis and kidney disease services, today announced its acquisition of three dialysis centers in Laredo, Texas. Satellite Healthcare acquired the centers from DSI Renal effective January 1, and they are now known as Satellite Healthcare Laredo, Satellite Healthcare South Laredo, and Satellite Healthcare West Laredo. The addition of the new locations brings the number of in-center and home therapy facilities the organization operates in Texas to 12.

“We are pleased to kick off 2016 by bringing Satellite’s distinctive model of personalized kidney disease care to the Laredo area,” said Rick Barnett, President and CEO of Satellite Healthcare. “We’re excited to be adding new team members to our family and expanding our footprint in Texas. Our operations team is already working closely with the care providers and physicians in Laredo to further enhance the quality of patient care and center operations.”

Dr. Adolfo Garcia, a nephrologist with more than 35 years of experience, will oversee medical operations as the Medical Director of the three centers. Garcia joined Satellite Healthcare from DSI, along with a staff of 50. The centers currently serve approximately 250 patients.

“I’m looking forward to working with Satellite to help fulfill its mission of making life better for those living with kidney disease,” said Dr. Garcia. “I am confident that Satellite’s focus on whole-person care, including offering alternatives to traditional dialysis therapy such as nocturnal and home dialysis therapies, will significantly benefit members of the diverse communities we serve here.”

For more than 40 years, Satellite Healthcare has strived to provide best-in-class personalized dialysis and early patient wellness education services. The organization currently serves more than 7,000 patients at 82 centers across the country. It operates Satellite dialysis in-center facilities; Satellite WellBound, a nationally recognized leader in home therapy; and Ascend Clinical, the country’s largest independent renal lab. Satellite Healthcare also funds millions of dollars in applied pragmatic research annually, including through the Norman S. Coplon Extramural Grant Program, one of the nation’s largest private renal research endowments.

Satellite Healthcare opened its first dialysis center in Texas in 2006. In addition to its new centers in Laredo, it operates facilities and provides renal services in Austin, Houston, Kyle, San Antonio, and Round Rock.
