MOSCOW, Dec 11 (Reuters) - The Russian government introduced a ban on exports of durum wheat until May 31 effective from Monday, the day of the decree's publication, to ensure food security.

Russia is the world's largest wheat exporter, but its durum production and supplies are small.

Russia's agriculture ministry proposed the measure last month.

According to Interfax news agency, Russia boosted durum wheat exports between July 1 and Nov. 10 to 657,000 metric tons from 52,000 tons in the same period of 2022. The wheat was shipped to Italy, Turkey and Tunisia. (Reporting by Vladimir Soldatkin; Editing by Ron Popeski and Tomasz Janowski)
