January 18, 2017, at 1300hrs, at the Royal Thai Army Headquarters, Bangkok, Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha presided over the religious ceremony to commemorate 2017 Royal Thai Armed Forces Day and Royal Thai Army Day. Participated in the event were Minister of Defense, the Royal Thai Army's high-ranking commanders, former commanders, and officials.

Upon arrival, the Prime Minister was welcomed and saluted by the honor guards. He, then, laid floral offerings at the royal statue of King Rama V, and attended chanting ceremony by the monks.

January 18 of each year has been designated the Royal Thai Armed Forces Day and Royal Thai Army Day to honor King Naresuan the Great for his reclamation of independence, and to remember soldiers of the Royal Thai Armed Forces for their sacrifices to protect national sovereignty.
