January 17, 2017, at 1500hrs, at the Command Building I, Government House, H.E. Mrs. Donica Pottie, Ambassador of Canada to Thailand, paid a courtesy call on Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-gnam on the occasion of her assumption of position.

The Ambassador thanked the Deputy Prime Minister for the meeting today, and expressed condolence over the passing of His Majesty late King Bhumibol.

The Deputy Prime Minister took the opportunity to explain about Thailand's political situation that the Government is driving the country forward according to the Roadmap and national reform strategy. General election is expected after the royal cremation of His Majesty late King Bhumibol, and the coronation of His Majesty King Rama X. The Ambassador expressed hope that Thailand will be moved toward sustainable democracy, and commended the country's considerable progress on human rights situation and the Government's approaches on management of undocumented immigrants and refugees. The Deputy Prime Minister thanked the Ambassador for her understanding on the country's current situation.

Both parties were pleased with cordial relations between Thailand and Canada, and hoped to further strengthen mutual cooperation in all dimensions.
