Rhondda Cynon Taf Council has started work on a Flood Alleviation Scheme at Glanaman Road in Cwmaman, following a total investment of £100,000.

The scheme started on Wednesday, January 24, and involves the installation of linear drainage kerbs along Glanaman Road - as well as modifications to the highway. The works have been funded by an £85,000 investment from the Welsh Government, through its Small Scale Works Grant 2017/18, with the remaining £15,000 funding coming from the Council's ongoing #RCTinvest scheme.

The scheme will help mitigate flooding to Glanaman Road when the watercourse is overloaded and overtops in extreme weather, by providing a new route for the water to discharge back into the Nant Aman Fach through a new drainage system - therefore reducing the impact on residential properties.

The scheme will last around six weeks and temporary traffic control will be used, where required, to relieve any traffic congestion as a result of the works.

Councillor Andrew Morgan, Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and Cabinet Member with responsibility for Highways, said: 'The Council will begin this important local scheme to help alleviate flooding at Glanaman Road, for the benefit of residents and the wider community.

'The Council continues its significant investment in Highway schemes through #RCTinvest with a £15,000 contribution, with 85% of this project being funded by the Welsh Government. It is another example of the Council securing welcome external investment in order to complete local schemes.

'The Council will complete works with as minimal disruption as possible, and may require traffic management on occasion to keep traffic flowing while these works are undertaken.'
