As technology develops and the Internet evolves, so does our use of language. Journalism is no longer just ink on paper but also typeface on a screen. How we write online is much different than how we write traditionally, but it's easy to do. Writing online is not nearly as scary as it may sound!

Here are some tips to get you started:

  1. Cater to your audience. Choose the right point of view and word choice based on your audience. There is no need to show off with big words that no one will understand. On the other hand, don't be too casual by using text abbreviations such as, 'Thx, U R, etc.' Be professional!
  2. Create high-quality content. Use proper grammar and correct spelling so you won't lose credibility with your audience. Triple check your work for small mistakes! A perk of writing online is that you can make edits after hitting the publish button. Install the free program Grammarly to help you find any grammar or spelling errors.
  3. Remain relevant. Keep your information up-to-date and topics timely. Use relevant hashtags to broaden the reach of your work, as well. Is there a new Reliv Super Saturday event or Fit3 Challenge? Write about it!
  4. Engage with your audience. Ask your audience questions, reply to their comments and write about topics that they want to hear. Always use a call to action to encourage them to engage with you.
  5. Use visuals. We are a very visually-based species, especially Millenials. We love pictures, graphics, videos and more, especially on social media. Just make sure your visuals are relevant to your written content. You can always find free stock photos to use on CreativeCommons.org.

With these 5 quick tips, your writing will improve tremendously. Take the Internet by storm with your new skills!
