The Justice Department and Environmental Protection Agency have reached a $7.4 million settlement with two Dallas-based oil companies over a 2022 spill from the Osage pipeline onto allotted tribal land.

The regulators said Tuesday that Holly Energy Partners-Operating and Osage Pipe Line Company will pay Clean Water Act civil penalties to settle claims related to the pipeline rupture and crude oil spill onto land owned by members of the Sac and Fox Nation in Oklahoma.

The companies also have agreed to implement corrective measures and complete the cleanup and remediation of the affected area.

According to the government, the July 2022 spill dumped about 300,000 gallons of crude oil into the nearby Skull Creek, which flows into the Cimarron River.

The companies are still cleaning up the site, while the pipeline has been returned to operation at a reduced pressure. The Sac and Fox Nation currently has tribal monitors deployed at the spill site.
