Aker BP ASA (AkerBP) is the operator of the Ivar Aasen field, which is an oil and gas field currently in development. The field is in the North Sea west of Stavanger and around 30 kilometres south of Grane and Balder. The development consists of a production, drilling and quarters facility with a steel jacket and a separate jack-up rig for drilling and completion. Production from the field began on 24 December 2016.

The PSA has carried out an audit of AkerBP's arrangements for the administration and management of emergency preparedness and materials handling. The audit took place from 24 to 27 October 2016 in the form of a meeting at the company's premises onshore, followed up by verifications on board the facility.

The audit revealed non-conformities relating to:

  • Communications equipment
  • Materials handling
  • User instructions for and marking of lifting equipment

In addition, improvement points were detected in connection with:

  • Evacuation routes
  • Materials handling plan
  • Individual technical issues

AkerBP has been given a deadline of 1 February 2017 to report on how the non-conformities will be dealt with and how the improvement points will be assessed.
