Customers expected to start receiving benefits in May

CHICAGO - Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas filed testimony today with the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) seeking approval to pass along savings from the federal tax law changes to Illinois customers.

The energy companies expect customers to start realizing the tax benefits as early as May 2018. The amount of the tax benefits returned to customers will be determined by the ICC.

'Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas would like our customers to benefit from the recently enacted federal tax legislation this year,' said Charles Matthews, president and chief executive officer.

On Oct. 2, 2017, the two Illinois energy companies filed for ICC approval of a proposal that would deliver savings from any federal tax law changes to customers. The ICC initiated a proceeding to address the matter. Since then, Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas have been working closely with ICC staff on the details, mechanics, and timing of the tax benefits to customers. Today's filing incorporates input from those discussions held over the past two months.
