WASHINGTON, Jan. 3, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- NV Energy and the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) today announced that Tony Sanchez, senior vice-president, government and community strategy, is taking on a key loaned executive role with EEI in Washington, D.C. EEI is the association that represents all U.S. investor-owned electric companies. Its members provide power to more than 220 million Americans and operate in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. "Tony Sanchez' leadership of government relations and community support initiatives with NV Energy is noteworthy, and has prepared him well for such an exceptional opportunity at EEI," said Paul Caudill, president and chief executive officer of NV Energy. "Greg Abel, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of our parent company, Berkshire Hathaway Energy, is scheduled to move into the EEI Board Chair position in 2019. Tony will support Greg in this important industry leadership role and also work directly with the Berkshire Hathaway Energy federal legislative policy office on issues important to the company."

EEI was organized in 1933 as the industry trade association and is leading an industry transformation that is focused on building smarter energy infrastructure, providing increasingly clean energy, and creating energy solutions customers want. "I look forward to welcoming Tony to Washington," said EEI President Tom Kuhn. "His hands-on experience in state regulatory and legislative affairs will be incredibly valuable to our EEI team and to all of our member companies." Sanchez has served in a number of roles with EEI, most recently as NV Energy's representative on the industry association's External Affairs Executive Advisory Committee.

A Nevada native, Sanchez received his undergraduate degree in Political Science from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and his law degree from Arizona State University. From 1992 to 1995, he served Nevada U.S. Senator Richard H. Bryan as associate legislative counsel for energy and natural resource issues in Washington, D.C. He was assistant general counsel for the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada and became executive assistant to Nevada Governor Bob Miller in 1998. Following close to 10 years with the Nevada statewide law firm of Jones Vargas, Sanchez joined NV Energy in 2007.

"Tony's personal efforts in the Nevada community include more than 10 years of leadership with the Las Vegas Latin Chamber of Commerce, where he served as President, and leadership with the Clark County Public Education Foundation, the Nevada Nature Conservancy, as well as serving as Trustee for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and Nevada State College Foundations," said Caudill. "Tony serves on the NV Energy Foundation Board and has served on the boards of the United Way of Southern Nevada and the Las Vegas Metro Chamber of Commerce. The list of the organizations and people he continues to touch is long. While we will miss him, the opportunity to grow his career with Berkshire Hathaway Energy and EEI is exciting, and we wish him well."
