NSW HOUSING APPROVALS STILL AT RECORD HIGHS

The NSW housing sector continues to go from strength to strength, confirmed by today's ABS housing approvals, which are the sixth-consecutive month of record- breaking figures

Official ABS data showed there were nearly 66,500 homes given the green light in the year to November in NSW - the highest result on record.

NSW also recorded the highest annual growth in approvals of all mainland states.

Treasurer Gladys Berejiklian said a boost in approvals was good news for people wanting to enter the housing market.

"This is an increase in housing approvals of 30 per cent on the same period in 2014, and is the sixth consecutive record-breaking annual total," Ms Berejiklian said.

"Increasing supply is the best way to ease housing affordability and this has been the key focus for the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government since we came to office in 2011."

Planning Minister Rob Stokes also welcomed the news.

"The NSW Government is building new communities across Sydney and boosting housing supply and planning for an unprecedented number of new homes," Mr Stokes said.

"We have released or rezoned land to accommodate at least 121,000 new homes in 2015 so we ensure that as NSW grows, that growth is sustainable and inclusive."
