Gas Explosion and Fire Incident at the Louis Gas Liquefied Petroleum Gas Refilling Plant at La, Accra.

Domazu Gas Limited is a Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Refilling Plant under the sponsorship of Louis Gas Company Limited.
The said gas plant is located at La opposite the Accra Trade Fair Centre in the La Dade Kotopon Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.

A gas explosion occurred at the gas refilling plant on Thursday, December 22, 2016 which culminated in fatalities and severe injuries as well as damage to property.
Hence the regulators have suspended the sale of LPG at the said plant to the general public. In this regard, the Environmental Protection Agency in conjunction with the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) and Ghana National Fire Service decided to evacuate the residual gas in the storage tank using direct evacuation control techniques on Friday, December 23, 2016.

We commend the Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, National Disaster Management Organization and the Ambulance Service for their timely intervention and efforts that prevented the incident from escalating.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the gas explosion emanated from an LPG Bulk Road Vehicle (BRV) that had stationed at the gas refilling plant to discharge product into the storage vessel at the station. Meanwhile, an Investigative Committee comprising officials from the regulatory bodies has been set up to undertake detailed investigation to establish the cause of the accident and report to the appropriate authorities accordingly.

The Environmental Protection Agency, National Petroleum Authority (NPA) and Ghana National Fire Service as key stakeholders will continue to ensure that such incidents do not occur in future and assure the public of our commitment and determination to protect the environment, life and property.
