Modernizing Medicine, Inc. announced today that its Chief Financial Officer, Karen O'Byrne, received the South Florida Business Journal's 2014 CFO Award in the small private company category. The award recognizes top financial executives across the region, selecting winners based on financial management, strategic thinking and contributions to corporate reputation.

"Karen consistently demonstrates how a talented CFO can profoundly impact a company," said Daniel Cane, President and CEO of Modernizing Medicine. "No matter what project Karen works on, she exhibits leadership and expertise that inevitably leads to the continued growth and success of Modernizing Medicine, and we are confident she will continue to serve as a vital member of the team."

This is the second time South Florida Business Journal has recognized Karen's work since she joined Modernizing Medicine in 2011, naming her one of its Most Influential Business Women in 2013. Karen's accomplishments at Modernizing Medicine include implementing foundational accounting and revenue recognition policies, growing the company from 20 to 150 team members, introducing employee affiliate programs and helping to raise approximately $14MM in growth capital during the summer of 2013.

"The 2014 CFOs we honored this year are those who are continually scrutinizing their companies' business models and are catalysts for driving change," said Melanie Dickinson, President and Publisher, South Florida Business Journal. "South Florida is seeing tremendous success and a big part of why we are ahead of the curve and poised for growth is CFOs such as winner Karen O'Byrne with Modernizing Medicine."

Award winners were revealed at a reception on January 22 held at the IGFA Fishing Hall of Fame & Museum in Dania Beach, which recognized all other finalists and honorees as well. Winners and finalists were also profiled in South Florida Business Journal's January 24 edition.
