The Ministry of Foreign Affairs firmly condemns the horrific terrorist attack perpetrated on Friday, 17 January 2014, in Afghanistan's capital Kabul, that killed at least 21, including persons working for the UN, the IMF and EUPOL.

Romania supports Afghanistan's continuous efforts to fight terrorism in all its forms. The attack in Kabul invites attention, once more, to the scope of this extremist phenomenon in Afghanistan and to the need to step up action to ensure the security of citizens.

MFA considers as unacceptable the attacks against civilians and international staff members, such attacks standing for a serious violation of international law. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs extends sincere condolences to the families of victims and expresses sympathy with the international organizations that have again suffered losses in Afghanistan, as well as with the entire Afghan people, who have to cope with such atrocities.
