Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Lit : Lithuania's Foreign Vice-Minister meets with Japanese Ambassador, explores new opportunities for cooperation

On 4 January, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Neris Germanas met with the Ambassador of Japan to Lithuania Shiro Yamasaki, who presented the opportunity to implement new cooperation projects in the fields of energy, transport, and life sciences.

'We are glad that our economic cooperation is intensifying after high-level bilateral political visits in 2018. In addition, a working holiday scheme, which offers young Lithuanians the possibility to learn more about Japan, will enter into force on 1 April 2019,' said the Vice-Minister N. Germanas.

The meeting also discussed a recent visit of Japanese entrepreneurs representing a number of different business sectors to Lithuania and new opportunities for economic cooperation offered by the EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement. The agreement will become effective as soon as 1 February 2019.

A Memorandum of Understanding on scientific and technological cooperation was signed during the visit of the Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis to Japan in October 2018. The agreement with Japan on the working holiday schemes was negotiated at the end of December.
