Nairobi Monday January 9, 2017 (MFA Press) - Kenya has upped lobbying for the position of Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC) where Cabinet Secretary Amb. Amina Mohamed is vying with five four other candidates from Senegal, Mali, Botswana and Equatorial Guinea.

At the weekend Deputy President William Ruto while leading Kenya's delegation to the Inauguration of Ghana's new President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, lobbied for Amb. Mohamed for the election due in January 30, 2017 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

DP Ruto held brief talks with President Akufo-Addo and introduced CS Mohamed as the most experienced consensus builder that Africa needs at this time of its development and history.

Later yesterday, DP Ruto made a brief visit to Cameroon where he held discussions with Cameroon Prime Minister Philemon Yang in Yaounde and delivered a special message to President Paul Biya from President Kenyatta.

The Special Message seeks Cameroon's support for Kenya's Candidature for the Chair Person of AUC.

Speaking to the Media after discussions with the Cameroonian Prime Minister, DP Ruto said Kenya's candidate brings a wealth of experience as a renowned public servant that is sure to propel Africa in the implementation of Agenda 2063.

'Amb. Amina Mohamed has many years of experience having worked as an ambassador to the United Nations both in New York and Genava. She has also worked has as an Assistant Secretary General and in her current position was appointed the first woman Minister of Foreign Affairs,' said Ruto.

He said Amb. Mohamed was a consensus builder and a serious trade negotiator that Kenya was offering to Africa as a gift so as to push forward Agenda 2063 and the Pan African Dream of the founding fathers of the Continent.
