Jakarta, 01/17/2017 MoF - Finance Minister Sri Mlyani Indrawati shared a session regarding Economic Development and Fiscal Challenges in Indonesia, at 2017 military leader meeting in Indonesian Military (TNI) Headquarter, Cilangkap, Jakarta on Monday (01/16).

Indonesia has a big population with 40 percent are still under 30 years-old, hence they are potential to support economic growth in Indonesia. 'Their age is young, powerful and able to be the economic resource, and also to support the nation's defense,' she said. But she also warned that the investments for human resources are vital, thus they will be productive, innovative and competitive.

In the same occasion, TNI commander with the minister signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation to implement responsibilities between Ministry of Finance and TNI. The Commander hoped the MoU can assist tax collection thus tax revenue can exceed the expected target.

The Minister expressed his support to TNI, because TNI has a significant role. 'It is the ability to influence the people to have a character. If necessary, the TNI should ask 'Sir/Ma'am, you have paid you tax, haven't you?' to everywhere they go,' she conveyed.

For information, one of the 2017 state expenditure policies is to support law enforcement and defense & security stabilization, through eradication and enforcement of illicit drug trafficking, terrorism, and weapons procurement. The budget for defense function in 2017 state budget is Rp108,293.8 billion. (hr/rsa)
