Memorandum: Ukraine and Finland to intensify cooperation in the spheres of energy efficiency, energy saving and in the use of renewable energy sources

In the course of the official visit of President Petro Poroshenko to Finland, a Memorandum of Understanding in the spheres of energy efficiency, energy saving and alternative energy sources has been signed by Vice Prime Minister - Minister of Regional Development, Construction and HCS of Ukraine Hennadiy Zubko and Minister for Foreign Trade and Development of Finland Kai Mykkänen in the presence of the two Presidents following the bilateral negotiations.

The purpose of the Memorandum is to enhance bilateral cooperation in the spheres of energy efficiency, energy saving and in the use of renewable energy sources and alternative types of fuel.

Under the provisions of the document, the parties shall exchange experience, information and knowledge on the state policy, best practices of electricity generation from renewable energy sources and alternative fuels, ensuring stable operation of the power system while increasing the proportion of electricity generated from renewable energy sources. The parties shall also develop and implement common programs and projects, support organizations and companies from the two countries in holding common seminars, courses and meetings on the topic of energy efficiency, energy saving, renewable energy sources and alternative types of fuel.

The implementation of the provisions of the Memorandum will promote the improvement of Ukrainian legislation, standards and business processes in the context of the implementation of programs for ensuring energy efficiency and using renewable energy sources, particularly in the district heating systems, transport sphere and industry.
