Medfusion has achieved confirmation of its status as a Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard (DSS) Level 1 secure service. Healthcare provider organizations can now outsource billing management to Medfusion without having to invest heavily in their own infrastructure to ensure the highest standard of excellence for payment data security.

PCI-DSS is an information security standard defined by the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council, which includes American Express, Discover, MasterCard and Visa.

PCI certification—designed to prevent credit card fraud through increased controls around data and its exposure to compromise—is required for organizations that process credit card payments. Level 1 compliance refers to organizations that store, process and/or transmit more than 300,000 transactions annually. The certification was awarded for 2015-2016.

“I am proud of this major accomplishment and the effort and investment needed to achieve this accreditation milestone,” said Medfusion Chief Executive Officer Vern Davenport. “Over the past year, we have evolved from a Patient Portal to a Patient Relationship Management company by adding our Medfusion Pay suite and Medfusion Plus mobile app to our platform. We entered these new business opportunities with the commitment to build the best products with the highest level of security for our customers, and we feel grateful to receive this validation.”

Certification requires organizations to:

  • Build and maintain a secure network
  • Protect cardholder data
  • Maintain a vulnerability management program and information security policy
  • Implement strong security measures
  • Regularly test and monitor networks
