Maksat Arip is pleased to provide the following update on the English Commercial Court’s ruling of 21 January:

  • A $300 million claim by Kazakhstan Kagazy PLC (‘KK’) against Mr Arip and Mrs Sholpan Arip was dismissed in its entirety
  • After a two day hearing, the Honourable Mr Justice Leggatt found that the claim by KK PLC did not have any prospect of success on both factual and legal grounds and that KK PLC’s claim was unsupported by the evidence
  • The KK companies were therefore required by the Judge to pay a substantial sum to Mr and Mrs Arip in respect of their costs
  • The Judge also refused permission to appeal against this decision

Maksat Arip commented: “This is an important step in demonstrating the lack of merit in the claims against me. The English Court has definitively rejected this claim and I look forward to being vindicated in respect of the other claims in due course.”
