January 21, Punakha: With the aim to create awareness on improved dairy cattle breeds and sustainable dairy production in Dzongkhag, a cattle show was held at Mendagang in Dzomi gewog.
The show was graced by Dasho Dzongrab along with DYT chairman and officials from Dzongkhag and Gewog Administrations. The dairy farmers from Dzomi, Shelnga-Bjemi and Toedwang gewogs were also present.
One of the show attractions was farmers quiz related to the livestock development programs which was organised among four dairy farmers group. The panel of judges from College of Natural Resources, Lobeysa and Wangdue Dzongkhag Livestock Sector evaluated around 170 jersey cattle.
The event concluded with awarding of prizes (both in cash and kind) to the best dairy cattle under category of milking and dry cows, heifer, female and male calves. Prizes were also awarded to the farmers who delivered highest milk at Khuruthang Dairy Sale Counter after its establishment in September 2017.
