SHAKOPEE, Minn. (Jan. 14, 2014) -- Delegates to the Minnesota Corn Growers Association (MCGA) annual meeting on Jan. 8 elected three new board members and re-elected three current board members. The annual meeting was part of MN Ag EXPO 2014 at the Verizon Wireless Center in Mankato.

Newly elected board members to serve three-year terms include:

• Paul Henning, district 1. Henning has been farming for 45 years and grows corn, soybeans, alfalfa and feeds beef cattle in Okabena.
• Timothy Wiersma, at-large. Wiersma has been farming for 18 years and grows corn, soybeans and raises custom hogs in Wells.
• Kirby Hettver, at-large. Hettver is a fifth-generation farmer in DeGraff who grows corn, soybeans and alfalfa.

Re-elected to the board were Chuck DeGrote, district 4 (Clara City); Tim Waibel, district 5 (Courtland) and Noah Hultgren, district 6 (Raymond).

Retiring from the MCGA board were Greg Schwarz (Le Sueur), DeVonna Zeug (Walnut Grove) and Steve Sodeman (St. James).

"We're going to miss Greg, DeVonna and Steve and we thank them for their years of dedicated service to Minnesota's corn farmers," said MCGA president Ryan Buck. "This is a challenging and exciting time in corn farming with a broad range of issues requiring our attention. I look forward to the fresh perspectives and energy our three new board members bring to the team as we continue moving Minnesota corn farming forward."

MCGA has over 6,800 members and works closely with the Minnesota Corn Research & Promotion Council to represent the interests of more than 24,000 corn farmers throughout Minnesota. The shared mission of both organizations is to identify and promote opportunities for corn farmers, while building better connections with the non-farming public.
