LECOMPTON, Kan., Jan. 12, 2018 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The 22nd Annual Bleeding Kansas Program series is set to begin at 2pm, January 28 at the historic Constitution Hall in Lecompton Kansas.  The series focuses on the early territorial history of Kansas and its role in the Civil War. The museum's curator, Tim Rues, states that "what's exciting about the Bleeding Kansas series is not only the topics and the knowledgeable presenters but the unique venue.   The programs are held on the second floor of Constitution Hall where the early territorial government was formed and the pivotal Lecompton Constitution was written 163 years ago."

The first event in the series on Jan 28 will chronicle the Saving of Constitution Hall, a national landmark and state historic site. Former Kansas State Senator Winton A. Winter, Jr., representing Lecompton in the State Senate from 1982 - 1992 and preservation architect Dan Rockhill, a JL Constant Distinguished Professor of Architecture at the University of Kansas and Executive Director of Studio 804, will discuss how the building was acquired and preserved to become a state historic site.

Weapons of Kansas and Missouri: Cavalry Carbines of the Civil is the title of the 2nd program scheduled for Feb. 4.  The presenter, Gary Nevius, has one of the finest and rarest private collections of Civil War era cavalry carbines.  Mr. Nevius is an architect from Overland Park and is a member of the Freedom's Frontier National Heritage Area Board of Directors.

Dr. Brian Matthew Jordan will be making his third appearance for the Bleeding Kansas series.  Dr. Jordan is a professor at Sam Houston State University Department of History and is the author of the 2016 Pulitzer Prize Finalist in history.  His book titled Marching Home: Union Veterans and Their Unending Civil War will be the program scheduled for Feb 11 and a book signing will follow his presentation.

Ralph A. Monaco, a repeat presenter, will present his newest book on Feb 18. titled The Bandit Rides Again, Jesse James, Whiskeyhead Ryan & the Glendale Train Robbery.  Mr. Monaco is a practicing attorney and past president and current treasurer of the Jackson County Missouri Historical Society. A book signing will follow the presentation.

The Wyandots, Quindaro, and Other Immigrant Tribes of Bleeding and Civil War Kansas is the subject of the Feb 25 program. Sisters Holly Zane and Kristen Zane are members of the Wyandot Nation of Kansas and the Bear Clan.

Deborah Barker will headline the March 4 program and present her newest book Black Civil War Veterans Build a Church in 1867. A book signing will follow.  She has a long history of service to numerous organizations including the Franklin County Kansas Historical Society, the Kansas Historical Society and Freedom's Frontier National Heritage Area.
