KCI announced today that its V.A.C.Ulta TM Therapy System and Prevena TM Incision Management System received new Innovative Technology designations from Novation, the leading health care supply chain expertise, analytics and contracting company for the more than 100,000 members and affiliates of VHA Inc., UHC, Children's Hospital Association and Provista.

The significant designation is only provided to a small portion of products that are already available on contract through Novation. As part of the recent Novation Innovative Technology Expo, the products were thoroughly evaluated and reviewed by hospital member-led councils and found to have an incremental benefit over other products that improve patient care or reduce the risk of harm to patients and care givers. The products are now designated with a new Innovative Technology icon in the Novation online contract catalog, making them easy to identify.

"The people of KCI are honored to be recognized for the significant clinical and financial benefit that KCI products and therapies bring to patients and hospital facilities alike," said Jim Cunniff, senior vice president, Americas, KCI. "Our mission is simple: to provide transformative healing solutions to those who need it most. This designation affirms that our therapies--in this case, the V.A.C.Ulta TM Therapy System and our Prevena TM System--do indeed offer uniquely beneficial solutions to a broad spectrum of wounds, including the most challenging and complex cases."

The V.A.C.Ulta TM Therapy System is the latest evolution in V.A.C.® Therapy technology, combining V.A.C.® Therapy with V.A.C. VeraFlo TM Instillation Therapy - the automated, controlled delivery and removal of topical wound solutions in the wound bed. Recent clinical studies indicate that V.A.C. VeraFlo TM Therapy was associated with a statistically significant decrease (p<0.05) in operating room (OR) visits for patients whose infected wounds required hospital admission and serial surgical debridement, when compared to V.A.C.® Therapy.

The Prevena TM Incision Management System is the first and only powered negative pressure product designed specifically for surgical incision management. The Prevena TM System has been associated with positive clinical outcomes when compared to standard of care incision management in published studies covering a variety of incision types, including standard orthopedic, cardiothoracic, vascular procedures and colorectal.

"In addition to evaluating new technologies not on contract, we are pleased to recognize products already on contract that meet the strenuous hospital member-based requirements to be considered through the Innovative Technology program," said Debbie Archer, director, procurement and innovative technology, Novation.
