Statement by Montana Farm Bureau President Hans McPherson:

'It is no surprise that President Trump pulled out of the Trans-Pacific Partnership, as he told us he would during his campaign. Farmers are optimistic people and we are hopeful he is working towards a better trade agreement than the TPP. He has said he will put American First in our trade deals. He has selected some good people in his cabinet like Sonny Perdue for U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, which makes us feel optimistic he will develop a good trade plan.

'Agriculture needs trade to survive and is the backbone of America's economy. President Trump realizes that rural America was important to his being elected, and we hope that will resonate with him as he works on new trade deals that help rural America and especially American agriculture.'
