Ireland unemployment rate declines to 4.3% in December

(Alliance News) - Ireland's unemployment rate fell for the first time in seven months at the end of 2022, figures on Wednesday showed.

According to the Central Statistics Office, the nation's jobless rate fell to 4.3% in December, from 4.4% in November.

It was the first fall in the unemployment rate since a sharp decline to 4.2% in May, from 4.6% in April. Since then, joblessness has inched slightly higher, but was unchanged at 4.4% between August and November, ahead of December's fall.

The unemployment rate stood at 5.1% in December 2021.

"The rate of 4.3% in December 2022 was lower than the pre-pandemic level of 4.8% recorded in December 2019," CSO analyst John Mullane commented.
