Vienna,2020-01-17 - In December 2019, the inflation rate was 1.7%, as Statistics Austria reports (November 2019: 1.1%). Fuels and heating oil no longer declined as heavily as they did in November which led to a relatively strong increase of the December inflation rate. Prices for housing, water and energy (+2.5% compared to December 2018) remained the most important price driver, followed by prices for restaurants and hotels (+3.4%). The index level of the consumer price index 2015 (CPI 2015) was 108.1 in December. Compared to the previous month, the average price level increased by 0.7%.

The index level of the harmonised index of consumer prices(HICP 2015)was 108.69 in December 2019, with the harmonised inflation rate amounting to 1.8%.
