Industrial shares edged lower as the core Personal Consumption Expenditures Price Index increased 2.6% from a year ago, slowing from April's 2.8% pace.

Analysts said that disruptions from a software outage hobbling thousands of U.S. auto dealerships could trim auto-industry sales by 5% to 10% in June from their original forecasts, although many of those foregone purchases are likely to be made up in July if things normalize. It isn't clear whether the widespread outages will affect automakers' reporting of June sales tallies, scheduled for early next week.

Canada's Labor Minister ordered WestJet Airlines and the union representing the carrier's maintenance engineers to enter into binding arbitration on a new labor agreement, averting a strike action during a holiday long-weekend in the country.
