    Indiana Michigan Power's Cook Nuclear Plant Unit 2 will begin its twenty-second refueling outage Tuesday at midnight. Power was reduced to 50 percent Sunday evening for equipment testing prior to the outage. During the 18-month fuel cycle, the unit is projected to have generated 13.5 million megawatthours of electricity at a capacity factor of 99.4 percent. Unit 2 has operated at effective full power for the last five fuel cycles dating back to May of 2009. Cook Unit 1 remains at 100 percent power.

    The Watervliet Solar Power Plant will have more than 50,000 solar panels and generate up to 4.6 megawatts of emission-free energy. The facility is expected to generate energy equivalent to powering about 650 homes annually.

In addition to refueling the reactor and performing regular maintenance and testing work, the outage also included several large component replacements that were part of the plant's Life Cycle Management (LCM) project.

    A large transformer that connects the two transmission switchyards outside Indiana Michigan Power's (I&M) Cook Nuclear Plant failed late Friday afternoon. The transformer holds 30,000 gallons of oil. The majority of the oil was contained by the spill berm, but approximately 2,000 gallons were released to the ground.
