FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Soil testing begins Monday in preparation for replacing Succor Creek Bridge

HOMEDALE - Soil testing is slated to begin Monday (Jan. 27) as a precursor to replacing the Succor Creek Bridge on Idaho 19 in 2015 or 2016, the Idaho Transportation Department announced. The bridge may be moved slightly to the west to better align the bridge opening with the creek, but that is still to be decided.

Weather allowing, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays between Jan. 27 and Feb. 7, crews will conduct testing from River Road (at milepost 3) to Johnstone Road (at milepost 4). The contractor will use a drilling rig to drill for soil samples that will determine necessary materials for the upcoming replacement.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane on the two-lane road, alternating eastbound and westbound closures depending on drilling locations. This may cause delays of up to 15 minutes in the work zone. Flaggers will be used to guide alternating traffic. Traffic is limited to 12 feet in width.

Haztech Drilling, of Meridian, and Terracon Consultants, of Boise, are collaborating on the drilling and soil testing.

Highway construction is one of the key forces pushing Idaho toward full economic recovery by creating jobs, improving safety and reducing traffic congestion.
