In the wake of US President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address this week, businesses, IT and cybersecurity professionals continue to debate how proposed cybersecurity legislation will affect them and what it will mean for industry. To help clarify what is on the table and provide updates on significant developments in legislation affecting cybersecurity, ISACA created the Cybersecurity Legislation Watch center and developed its first CSX Special Report as part of its Cybersecurity Nexus (CSX), which offers cybersecurity guidance, training and resources.
A new global survey of more than 3,400 members of IT association ISACA shows that 83 percent believe cyberattacks are one of the top three threats facing organizations today and an alarming 86 percent believe there is a shortage of skilled cybersecurity professionals. The 2015 Global Cybersecurity Status Report survey was conducted in January and found that 76 percent of respondents agree or strongly agree with President Obama’s proposal to require companies to notify customers of a data breach. The greatest challenge to this proposal, according to respondents, is concern over corporate reputation.
The five-page CSX Special Report provides a thorough overview and insights into the proposals outlined by the Obama Administration. The Cybersecurity Legislation Watch center will continue to provide periodic updates on cybersecurity legislation and reports.
ISACA, which assisted the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the development of the US Cybersecurity Framework, launched CSX in 2014 as a global resource for enterprises and professionals to help identify, develop and train a cybersecurity workforce, and also raise awareness of cybersecurity throughout organizations.

CSX has extensive resources to address the cybersecurity skills gap through training, mentoring, performance-based credentials and applied research. In October 2015, ISACA will host the first CSX conference in Washington DC to bring together global thought leaders in cybersecurity. In late 2014, ISACA launched the Cybersecurity Fundamentals Certificate, designed for university students and recent graduates, entry-level security professionals, and those seeking a career change.
