LAMB SUPPLIES TIGHT

, Sheep

IFA National Sheep Chairman Sean Dennehy said lamb supplies are scarce this week and factories are paying up to €5.10/kg.

He said some plants are paying €5.00 while others are offering €5.10/kg. He said against a background of tight supplies, farmers should dig in hard and insist on the higher prices. He said ewes were making €3.10/kg. The mart trade is also reported strongly.

On the clean sheep policy, Sean Dennehy said this was creating too many problems over the last three weeks and some factories and Department personnel were over the top. He said the policy has to take practical account of the weather situation at this time of year.
