MARKET COMMENTARY


The Vietnamese equity market experienced an accumulation day from both foreigners and local investors today with 7-month record high in combined liquidity. Noteworthy put through deals of the day were EIB (US$24.2mln), MSN (US$3.0mln), VNM (US$1.6mln) and VTF (US$1.6mln).
VN-Index extended its winning streak to the 10th day by increasing 2.99% to close at 447.16 on improved trading value of US$98.3mln, and VN30 Index soared 3.18% to close at 525.36. VCB, FPT, BVH, HAG, MSN, HSG, REE, PPC, VSH, VNM, GMD, OGC and ITA reached the ceiling on strong trading value. HCM (4.4%), HPG (4.3%), DHG (4.2%), SSI (4.2%), CII (3.8%), MBB (3.8%), PHR (3.8%), PGD (3.6%), DRC (2.9%), SJS (2.3%), GAS (2.3%), CSM (2.1%), EIB (1.9%), STB (1.9%), DPM (1.7%), PVD (1.4%), VIC (1.2%) and CTG (0.9%) contributed positively to the index, while IJC stayed flat. SBT (-1.3%), KBC (-1.4%) and DIG (-1.4%) were among a few retreating. EIB was the most liquid ticker with US$25.3mln in trading value. Foreigners prolonged their buying activities on HOSE as they bought US$18.5mln and sold US$8.9mln, representing 13.9% of total trading value. There was a cross-trade of VNM (bought US$1.6mln/sold US$1.6mln) among foreigners today.
HNX swung between gains and losses to ended green (+1.61%) at 59.95 on trading value of US$32.0mln, and HNX30 advanced by 3.04% to close at 116.43. NTP and SCR hit the ceiling. PVS (4.8%), SHB (4.6%), PVX (3.4%), KLS (3.2%), VCG (2.2%), DBC (2.0%) and LAS (1.0%) surged, while ACB remained its status quo. NVB was the only blue-chip declining on HNX with sluggish trading value. SHB was once again traded the most with US$6.4mln in value. Foreigners picked up US$1.8mln while selling US$283K.

Industrial News

HCMC sets targets for 2013 - HCMC's general targets for 2013 focus on improving the quality of growth in line with economic restructuring and macroeconomic stabilization, minimizing inflation rates, and recording a higher GDP growth rate than in

2012. HCM City has defined 29 targets for this year, comprised of 6 for economic development, 12 for social affairs, and 11 for
the environment. The city's GDP is expected to increase by 9.5%-10%. Export turnover will grow by 13.5% and total budget revenue will exceed VND236.8trln (US$11.3bln), equivalent to 112.9% of 2012's revenue level. HCM City People's Committee
Chairman Mr. Le Hong Hai is confident that despite 2013's inevitable challenges, the city with specific action plans and united action is destined to fulfill all its set socio-economic targets. (VOV)

SBV grants gold trading licenses to more firms - State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) plans to continue granting gold bullion trading licenses after the Lunar New Year, including four credit institutions and further enterprises. According to SBV branch in

HCMC, 31 enterprises, including 17 credit institutions and 14 enterprises have received licenses and they are preparing to start trading gold. The SBV will also continue its strict management of the gold market as stipulated by Decree 14 and Circular

Import rules on phones and cosmetics relaxed - The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) on January 7 abolished a regulation that restricted traders to import mobile phones, wines and spirits and cosmetics through three specific routes. The decision, with effect immediately, permits traders to import through all ports and by road, rail and air. The restrictions were

lifted in a bid to help struggling businesses. The MoIT said Vietnam imported US$4.47bln worth of cell phones last year, a 70%
y-o-y. (Vietnam News)

Vietnam targets to create 1.6mln jobs in 2013 - Vietnam would create total of 1.6mln jobs in 2013, including 1.5mln domestic jobs and 85,000 jobs for labor export, said Ms. Pham Thi Hai Chuyen, Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA). Vietnam also targets to have urban unemployment rate of below 4%, decrease of poor household by 2% in nationwide and poor districts by 4% from end of 2012. The information was released at the MoLISA's 2012 operation reviewing on January 7, 2013. (Vietnam News)

Vietnam will export 7.5mln tons of rice in 2013 - Vietnamese rice exporters aim to export at least 7.5mln tons of rice in

2013, but less than last year, according to Mr. Truong Thanh Phong, President of the Vietnam Food Association (VFA). VFA
predicts Vietnam will produce 7.6mln tons of commodity rice this year. In 1Q2013, Vietnamese rice exporters are likely to ship abroad 1.4mln tons. VFA suggested that the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) should step up trade promotion, especially in African countries. It recommended that the MoIT strengthen negotiations with China, the largest importer of Vietnamese rice in 2012. (Dan Tri)

HSG to hold AGM in early March 2013 - Hoa Sen Group (HSG) recently announced to hold 2013 AGM on March 6, 2013. The content at the AGM will be about 2012 business performance and production as well as 2013 business strategy. The last day to register for the AGM is January 21, 2013. HSG closed at its ceiling price of VND22,000 (US$1.1). (HSX)

PVD estimates to reach VND1,300bln (US$62.2mln) after-tax profits in 2012 - PetroVietnam Drilling JSC (PVD)'s Deputy

General Director Ms. Ho Ngoc Yen Phuong revealed that the after-tax profits in 2012 to reach an approximately of VND1,300bln (US$62.2mln), surpassing year target by VND150bln (US$7.2mln). PVD also aim to achieve 2013 business target with revenues growth of 10% y-o-y. PVD rose 1.4% to close at VND42,000 (US$2.0). (Dau Tu Chung Khoan)
