Higher One, a leading provider of financial services and data analytics to over 1,600 colleges and universities, announced that it formed a partnership in 2013 with The Council for Economic Education (CEE). CEE is the leading organization in the United States that focuses on the economic and financial education of K-12 students, providing more than 2,000 New York City area teachers with valuable financial literacy professional development.

Higher One's sponsorship of CEE's National Center for Economic and Financial Education, based in New York City, funds in-person workshops including Financial Survival Kit for Teachers & Students: Debt, Plastic Cards, Credit, Reports, Scores and Identity Theft; Economics, Personal Finance and the Common Core (9-12); and Learning, Earning and Investing: Learning the Basics. CEE also conducts national webinars targeted to teachers across disciplines and grade levels.

"Higher One believes that all students can become financially savvy when given much-needed tools and information, which is why we strive to address the critical need for financial literacy at all ages," said Mary Johnson, Financial Literacy and Student Aid Policy Director at Higher One. "We are pleased to work with CEE in this partnership to train K-12 teachers in how to effectively incorporate money management lessons in their classrooms. Recent research, published in the report Money Matters on Campus, indicates that effective financial literacy education must start early on to help students increase their ability to make sound financial decisions throughout their lives," Johnson said.

In a time of growing economic uncertainty and an increasingly global economy, CEE's mission is to instill in young people a real-world understanding of economics and personal finance in part through targeted professional development to teachers. In 2013, this partnership between CEE and Higher One has directly reached over 20,000 students.

About CEE

The Council for Economic Education (CEE) is the leading organization in the United States that focuses on the economic and financial education of students from kindergarten through high school. For 65 years, our mission has been to instill in young people the fourth "R"--a real-world understanding of economics and personal finance. It is only by acquiring economic and financial literacy that children can learn that there are better options for a life well lived, will be able to see opportunity on their horizon line and, ultimately, can grow into successful and productive adults capable of making informed and responsible decisions.
