The Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Hon. Semi Koroilavesau today reiterated that preference for the seasonal employment opportunities offered to Fijians to work in Australia and New Zealand will be given to Fijians living in rural communities.

Minister Koroilavesau said that in line with Government's vision of making socio economic development inclusive, the preference for these overseas employment schemes will first be given to Fijians who live in rural, maritime or isolated communities around the country. He highlighted that a key factor in determining recruitment is to look at locations that applicants reside in and the employment opportunities they can access from these areas, or the lack thereof.

'The preference for these overseas employment schemes will be given to Fijians who live in rural, maritime or isolated communities around the country,' Minister Koroilavesau said.

'One of the key factors in determining recruitment is to look at the locations people reside in and the employment opportunities they can access.'

He said that Fijians living in rural communities do not have access to as much employment opportunities as those living in urban communities.

'Since it's our role to provide employment opportunities, this is one of the reasons we are giving preference to Fijians in the rural.'
'We will continue to implement the eligibility criteria for the overseas employment schemes.'
